A celebrity winner for Broadsystem
Broadsystem successfully managed live a total of 2.3 million SMS votes for the
2003 I’m a Celebrity!…Get Me Out of Here!, via its specifically designed
text messaging platform. This represents a 250 per cent increase on last years
SMS votes for the series.
Broadsystem channelled all votes through its technically advanced platform capable
of handling 15,000 messages a minute. Such is the sophistication of the platform
that even at the phenomenal interactive volumes of I’m a Celebrity!…Get
Me Out of Here! it always operated with spare capacity. Even on the final transmission,
when 970,000 votes were received during the 90-minute show, only 60 per cent
of capacity was used.
Comments Richard Halliwell, senior account director, Broadsystem: “The
resources and expertise to manage comfortably such demanding volumes of interactivity
will become a prerequisite for many popular TV shows. Audience participation
in ITV programmes is one of the major growth areas for the broadcast industry
and the opportunity to influence the outcome of a TV show stimulates many mobile
phone owners to send their first simple text message.
Adds Jane Crossley, head of mobile and telephony, Granada Media: “Broadsystem’s
smooth handling of these huge volumes of SMS votes is a great testimony to its
superb expertise and technical resources.”
Broadsystem’s unique state of the art transactional SMS voting platform
processed the massive volumes of both inbound and outbound text messages for
I’m a Celebrity!…Get Me Out of Here! within the tight time frame
of live broadcast. As well as its speed, reliability and capacity, the flexibility
of the platform also came into its own when last minute changes to the voting
mechanism were made just prior to the show going live. The system even recognised
misspelled votes, allowing for thousands of viewers’ texts to be processed
that would otherwise have been lost.
Broadsystem also handled all SMS news or ‘gossip’ alerts about I’m
a Celebrity!…Get Me Out of Here! to registered viewers’ mobiles,
and processed the SMS voting polls for the ITV2 show. The SMS news alerts were
promoted on air throughout the programmes, allowing viewers to receive up to
the minute information on what was happing in the jungle 24 hours a day.
Broadsystem’s specialist live-to-air team also passed callers live to the
studio in Australia, giving viewers the chance to interact direct with the evicted
celebrities, and Broadsystem reprised its SMS services for the bush tucker trial
viewer vote on the reunion show which followed the smash series.
